I suggest you go to court IF you get a summons....your description of the event sounds as though it wasn't particularly a big deal. I had a "careless driving" summons from an off duty officer many years ago, I took it to court, defended myself and the officer was laughed out of court and the charge was dismissed in about 2 nano seconds.....
