I totally agree with what WRC said, I shoot with a 5D but my main Intrest is Landscapes. there is alot of differences between a 40d and a 1d but an Amatuer wouldnt notice ive seen really good photos taken with a 350d and Kit lens!!! the 40d and 5d are two different cameras, 40d crop sensore faster fps, 5d full frame 3fps, cropping a 5d photo to 40d size you will only have a 5mp or so photo.
