Maybe because they are a 'wholesale' business.
When I worked in a similar industy, we had 3 levels of service/pricing.
1/ Wholesale pricing was for quantity buys with no service offered, usually just an order on the fax.
2/ Trade pricing was offered to people who knew what they wanted and knew what it was called etc.
3/ Retail pricing included answers to dumb questions and agreement that the cutomers plan to re-invent the wheel was a good idea.
