Much to my irritation, the offset for the hats on my fancy new 2 piece discs are out. I thought i could feel the brakes dragging while cruising, and after Collie they developed an annoying squeak around right hand corners. Apparently some Prodrive brakes are supplied with a shim and some are not, apparently mine are the "not" and as such the disc sit too far in, and now the pads are worn down a little, touch the calliper.
Note how close the disc is to the left side of the calliper, and how the pistons on the right are extended but the ones on the left are not. i got the verniers out and there is ~4mm space on the right and less than 1mm on the left.
The three options i see now are:
- Fit a 5 stud wheel spacer *behind* the disc
- Make up a shim to space the calliper back, or my current prefered option:
- Take the discs off, split them and take them into work to get 2mm machined off outer the mounting surface.
I think thats the safest way to go about this, any thoughts?
With that, it makes it a stupid idea for me to attend No Limits this week as I'll probably start chewing through the calliper. I just don't have the time to sort it before Thursday night
That said, If I'm pulling one piece of the car apart, its time to strip that sucker back and start getting ready for motorvation.
