Default Fuel quality tolerances

Wasnt sure where to post this, but here goes...

I'm fairly pedantic sometimes, and I have been filling up at the same servo for a while now. Always the 98RON from BP. Choice of servo was due to the price was more competitive than nearby competitors.

Anyhow, car hasnt been running too smooth of late, and certainly didnt like mornings.

And then I screwed up my scheduling and was going to run out of fuel far from home and my preferred servo, so I called in to a different servo at filled up. Since then the car is purring like a kitten. Starts fine, idles beautifully. Absolutely nothing was touched or changed besides the point of purchase.

Is it possible that perhaps the servos tanks are contaminated slightly or perhaps even they are adulterating the fuel slightly? Should I query it with the station manager or perhaps a governing body of some sort? I am curious to try the old station again and see if the car's habits/flaws return with the fuel. That would clearly indicate a problem there.

Anyone else experienced something like this or heard of it?
