it sure is madness!
Yesterday and today I have been installing my bonnet pins. Not just any pins, I got these fuckers:
Aerocatch
The benefit of these is they sit flush, the ones I bought are lockable and they are supposed to be safer and more secure than traditional pins. Add to that they are lockable and I am removing my bonnet latch for additional weight savings
Firstly to install, I removed the rubber bumpstops from the middle of the bonnet, found the area they rest on in the radiator support, and smashed each one with a pin punch. Then I drilled through them
Wound the pin in just to get it lined up
Here is where the rubber bump stop normall sits, pull it out and punch it, then drill through
Next on the top of my shiney clean aluminium bonnet (may or may not be still dirty from evo vs wrx) you can see where i drilled through.
Next up the packaging has a template on it, I lined the cross hairs up with the hole I had drilled, then line both sets up so they are both facing the same way. Tape them down then mark it with a texta
Here comes the best bit. Took to my ally bonnet with a 1" cutting disc on a Dremel, cutting material out within a few mm of the marked out area
After I have cut a chunk out, i cleaned up the edges and brought it as close to the line as i could
Then need to do the same for the skin under the top surface of the bonnet. Once I had it as snug as possible, in drops the catch
Then I make sure its lined up with the pin, and thank goodness it is
Following that I have drilled the 6 mounting holes. Now to start the second one...
In other news, I have been attempting the wiring for the MY95->MY98 cluster swap. I am not very good at it, just btw.
Also, have solved my brake issue with a set of the TIC titanium hub sheilds, which work as perfect spacers for my slightly offset discs.
