Yeah when you get the 360 you have silver membership free, which means you can play online but apparently its limited.
Go get your self a gold pack ($99) it comes with 12 months gold membership and a pair of headphones/mic so you can talk to people online. Its pretty basic setting it all up and in no time you'll be playing winge'n poms and yanks and smacking them around the place hahahaha
