Doof doof?
Alright, so, Sick of the speakers in the car already and I'm keen on upgrading them asap.
I got an 05 WRX, stock deck and whatnot, so looking to upgrade. But, with such a small car, I don't know what would be best, I don't want my sub overpowering everything else and draining out all the sound with bass. What would people reccomend? Honestly I'm just thinkign 4 6x9's inthe doors, and then 2 extra ones in the parcel shelf at the back, and then a 12" sub. I'm guessing that's MORE then enough in such a small car, but I'm not too sure. What brands would you recommend using? I'm looking at all Alpine, for the speakers, sub, and deck, and the JVC for the amps. Anyne got experience with this? |

I recently installed a stereo in my car, I guess I'm getting old as I didn't want too much deafening bass so opted for a smallish stereo, coincidentally it ended up being all Alpine gear. Bluetooth head unit, DD Linear splits, Type S 12" sub in ported box and PDX 4.150 amp. Needed a lot of tweaking to get the harshness out of the tweeters but all in all sounds ok. I'm not sure if you were serious or not but IMO 6x9 are not nice sounding speakers so try and stick to factory sized stuff

(yes I got caught by the blasphemy that was Kenwood 7x10's ) Add sub(s) and amp(s) to taste, where you go with speaker selection is up to you, bumpstop seems to service most audiophiles on P-WRX but hasn't been all that active lately? One of the regulars will be able to post/pm his work contact details for you.

good luck fitting the 6x9's in. 6's in front 4's/ 5.25 in rear and 12" sub should sound pretty decent. Considering as you said it's not a huge car.

Yah steer clear of the 6x9's, and leave the sub to handle the bass. A nice set of 6/6.5" splits in the front and a decent 10/12" sub - dependent upon brand/model - will do the job nicely.

6x9 will be a pain in the ass to get in and won't sound nearly as good as a good set of 6.5 splits in the front.

My pm box is maxxed out at the moment too, I'll get that sorted out when I can. Sulph, as for a sensible system configuration for an 05 you would be best looking at 6.5" splits for the front, 5.25 co-ax's for the rear doors, 12" subwoofer, four channel amp and a mono. There are obviously other configurations but this is a proven combination that keeps many WRX owners smiling

6x9s are a pathetic excuse for speakers. Only suited for the parcel shelf of a P platers ford laser.
Don't be shy about it. Go 3 way dynaudios up front run of 2 massive amps and 3 x 15" DD subs in the boot run off as many monoblocks as you can fit. - Or the standard option that will cost 10x less, and quite often sound just as good A decent set of 6.5" splits up front and a 12" sub in the boot. Either run it off a single 4 channel amp, or a small 2 channel for the fronts and a monoblock for the sub. I generally wouldn't bother with rear speakers. I'd prefer to just spend more money on the better quality fronts.
