I'd say that alpine only have there own images so that if something goes wrong the unit will be covered by warrenty. if you or me brick our units and they discover a wallpaper not promoted on their site, no warrenty for us. i know from experiance i bricked my first psp.

Yep, they probably just do it to cover their own butt.

I was a little sceptical about trying it, but I did & it worked for me at least. I guess it's entirely up to you if you want to risk it or not.

Mind you when you read through that guys posts, it looks like he stuffed up one unit in trying to get this to work - OUCH!!!!!!!!!

is it possable to hook up sat nav to these units? the next model up from mine has sat nav built in by it was an extra 1k.

From what I have been told, the Alpine sat nav should be available in Aust within the next 12 months or so.

It's available in the USA & we usually get the same stuff about 12 months after they do.

gota wait 3 days till i get my car back before i can try the sti logo....

Just a quick update for those who are stil interested in this topic & also to re-iterate that you do this at your own risk.

I have just read that the guy who is doing these custom files has just posted that he stuffed his unit again when testing an image he had converted.

All the images on his site have been tested on his system, but there is no guarantee that they will not stuff up your system.

just a questions. ne of u guys no u can lock the eject button? Meaning wen u press eject it dont work. Stops pesky ppl who keep changing cds. just wondering if ne of u knew about it. alot of alpine installers dont even know about it lol.
im goin to get the sti logo. freak out alpine rep lol he been trying to crack it to.

I just went through the entire manual & can't find anything in it about locking the eject button
