Does it make a differance & why. Did mine a month ago and did them 1,4,3,2 ( by your diagram)

They feel fine. In fact with dot 4 in them they seem better than they ever have.

I generally do them in 2, 4, 3, 1 according to your diagram!! start with the one furthest away from the master cylinder and work your way back towards it!! But as long as you bleed all the old fluid out it shouldnt make a difference!!

ABS is same..just make sure air never gets into your ABS module.

Reason being is that 1 and 2 are connected to the secondary chamber of the Master Cylinder and 3 and 4 are from the primary chamber.
Source: Impreza Service Manual MY2002/Chassis Section/Brake/Ref15 Air Bleeding/BR-57...
Subaru seem to think it's important enough to document it in their manual and the drawing Joe pasted looks like its been lifted from a similar manual.

Having tried Silicon Fluid in my MY99...don't ask why, ABS takes a bit more to fully flush. Attach the factory machine to flush the ABS or between multiple bleeds take it for a belt around the block seriously working the ABS. And no, silicon fluid is not recommended for modern ABS equipped vehicles...it compresses and absolutely screws with ABS
