Retuned Daniel's GD WRX today. AVO Turbine was replaced with a TD05 plus larger injectors installed.
AVO Turbine removed and new TD05 installed: Vehicle gained another 20hp and 30Nm of Torque at WOT and improved all over the rev range compared to the earlier tune as the turbine was smaller. Vehicle hit 285 smoothly but 2deg of timing had to be removed up top as the motor was pinging. That's explains the flat at the top. Last edited by mao; 10-08-2012 at 10:36 PM. While I am here, I have to emphasize that Evolution R always targets driveability in our tunes, even in our flash tunes.
A lot of questions have been asked about 'the area under the graph', and the first thing that comes to our minds is' how the f to explain this' as there are so many ways to do it. However, I take this opportunity to show you Vi-pec's 3D tuning ability to do this. EDIT: BTW this is in real time. Below is an example of how Vi-pec achieves this. I'm sure you are aware Mao, but area under the curve has nothing to do with ignition maps.

area under the curve is simple, the more area under the lines, the more torque and horse power is available accross the rev-range.
aiming for just a peak figure (a dyno-day tune) will usually have less 'area under the curve', vs a high performance more reliable tune. also agreed, fuel and ignition maps do not correlate against 'area under the curve'. as boost increases, ignition decreases. also with motec i2 pro, you can use a derivative function to calculate the applicable area under the curve on your logs too. remember its a tuning tool, not a bragging statistic.

Other than boost, if fuel and ignition, has nothing to do with the derivatives for driveability or 'area under the curve', then pass me a formula and we will just use a calculator.
Our tunes are not aimed at achieving max hp as our customers already know by now. Safety and driveabilty comes first. We spend more time getting driveability than WOT -- bragging statistics are not part of our agenda. Quote:

Just pointing out that "area under the curve" refers to the area under your torque or power line on a dyno print out. Not the shape of an ignition map etc.
It's quite simple, look at the dyno curve plotted and see the area under that curve. People want to maximise that and not have a big peaky triangle shaped curve. Not saying that EvoR does that, just talking in general of what people mean by this. If I'm looking at a dyno plot, I only want to see massive area under the torque curve. That is what makes a great car.

Ok Kato. Just to point out the differences in views here.
That is just a WOT curve. Different scenarios and simulations on the dyno and street tune can differentiate from this curve, for example under different spool conditions. So I could have area above this curve as well. You might see a triangle at WOT -- EDIT: which is not suitable for WOT drag use. On track use, tuning has to account for what throttle and rev range you will be using, while trying to maximise the torque in that area you will be using most. Agreed: Yes in general refering to area under the curve is driveability. The Dynapack is just a tool that we use to tune the car, after which on road tuning proceeds for driveability -- and yes, lap top is plugged in and tune is further tweaked while driving on road. |

a WOT curve should still be relatively smooth though,
in fact it should have the least amount of fluctuations, since WOT is the easiest to tune.
