Is there any upgrade paths from Windows XP or is this upgradeable only to Vista PCs? I have both Vista and XP machines, but Vista totally sucks.

Officially MS say vista is upgradable to win7 but not xp.

Personally I always do a format and fresh install anyways.

it is due to RTM in 3 months,
downgrade rights are still available to all ea customers,
there is an upgrade path direct from xp.

yeah they are pretty good, windows 7 picks most of the drivers up. as long as your hardware isnt more than 2 years old, 64 bit drivers are easy to come by. Adobe CS4 master collection runs well on Windows 7 RC1 64bit :)
