Default Cut Out At 4500 Rpm...

Hi All,

I am currently experencing some problems with my my98 wrx and am looking for some advise or anyone who has had a similar problem...

The engine will cut out at 4500rpm, backfires during deceleration and hunts at idle.
I have tried clearing the fault codes and this temporarily fixes the problem, but after about 5mins of driving the check engine light will come on and the engine will not rev over 4500 rpm. I have also checked the solenoid and gone back to running std. 10psi boost.

I am still running a standard ECU but with an Apexi SAFC.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

AFM...

unplug the AFM. The engine will still start but dont drive it anywhere. However, with the AFM unplugged if the idle smoothes out, then you have found your problem.

AFM possibly? Have you tried taking the AFM out and giving it a clean? Do you know what CEL's the ECU is throwing?

As TJ says. When the engine does something wrong the ECU generates a code, this code has a specific meaning. If you have the code you will have a better idea of what is up with your engine. You will have a better idea of what path to diagnose rather than trying a bunch of random things!
