Well thats the thing.. I might be hard for one company to front up with a large sum of kesh but a few smaller companies might be able to find it. Well thats what im hoping in addition to others with parts..

But this is only a pipe dream atm. I might get the car on the road and decide i dont want to risk breaking anything and just leave the driving duties for RAC track days...

When I've looked into it, giving or getting outside sponsorship seems a pita taxation wise. Mainly why most sponsorship deals are by the car owners company or for services.

Just have a think about it, as the last thing you want is to get sponsorship kesh and then have Mr ATO come take it away. I also can't see a company handing over say $5k cash without receiving a tax invoice in return.

One of the accountant fellows could chime in on this I guess.

Yes and no. Companies want to be associated with winners.

How many ads do you see for a company, then car with a slogan along the lines of "congrats xxxx, winner of xxxx 2011, powered by xxxx"

You are most most most unlikely to see the following "congrats tino g, 2nd last in open class world time attack 2012, we are so happy our product got you there"

You are better off chasing private companies like DT for example - the aftermarket parts industry want to be seen as at the front of the field to justify their expenditure.

Ah the lols. Doubt you'll get $20k just because you have a nice car, you'd need some actual proof their money is going to be worth the investment & not paying for someones wish to go across the country to drive in a race. Since you dont compete in any real racing thats how it would look to alot of people. What good is a WA small company sponsorship when no one from WA will see it?

Not trying to shit on your dreams but I think you've got a long way before WTA, try doing some Targa races/twilight series etc for a couple of years first.

I'm no tax accountant but I do know that DTW have sponsored all manner of things in the past such as motorcycle enduro event rider, farking Pannawonnica rodeo bull rider, Motorvation 2009 just to name a few. We are privately owned company and if we think its good community based advertising we do it.

Yeah, but you need to get something back from the person/place being sponsored to claim it. i.e. I've had tax invoices, receipts, letters of recognition/thanks etc for past sponsorships.

Thing is, ATO doesn't let a company just hand out tax free money to people. So Tino getting sponsorship money might be seen as extra income and he pays tax on it. Mainly why he needs to look into it more. $20k quickly becomes $10k when Mr Taxman wants his cut.

Just something for Tino to consider and check with his accountants prior.
