Yep, this "fog" lights thing has been a perpetual issue ever since cars started sporting them from factory. Bottom line is, only legal to use them in "fog"; whether or not that extends to "smoke", "dust" or other vision distance limiting situations is open to interpretation.
Dunno about later models but the GC8 foggies are rated at 55W..... the same as the low beam headlight, and lower to the ground with the same direction of aim, so go figure. They are nowhere near as blinding as similar halogen jobs on later model commies etc.

Tis a very, very old debate.
My personal opinion is they don't hurt/ blind anyone, so in this case I think police could find more resourceful things to do then enforce such heavy penalties for misuse of factory installed equipment. It's something we should really take back to the manufacturer as a complaint. They have some responsibility for encouraging owners to use the device if they install it as standard equipment for Aus cars and state how to use it in the handbook etc. PS- I have removed mine years ago as they make great brake ducts! My opinion still stands though.

I knew after the fact that it was full atmo and I'm not debating that. I stated that he gave me a yellow sticker based on the BOV period'and used the 1month old tyres as the second rationale', for excuse to give me a yellow. Jesus christ mate, hows about you read and interpret what I have posted before you start preaching the gospel according to fail!

This is my first wrx and i never knew about such fog lamp rules in Australia. All car manufacturers should take the responsibility in telling us about the rules before selling us the car. Lucky for me, the cop only gave me a warning instead of dishing out the $250 fine and 3 demerits. hahaha the CAI idea sounds like a good one. Ok thanx everyone for ur comments |

Taken from WA Drive safe manual
and you should have read this to get your drivers lic Quote:
If you drive into fog bad enough that normal headlights create a blinding white sheet in front of you, you should turn fog lights on and headlights off allowing you to continue at a reasonable speed.
