CAMS or AASA ruling?
Targa West runs under cams, they say no 6 speeds. Brendon isnt running a 5 speed for fun.

I thought they relaxed the rules recently to allow these kinds of things including bigger STi turbo etc, could be wrong though.
Dougie should be up to speed with all the latest and greatest regs so ask him.

Aasa for sure, and I think cams also as that is the way the RA's were homologated! Besides who cares about targa west/cams!

You can run a 6 speed if you are going to run midfield. i.e. no one is going to protest you. Basically we have to run the standard casing. If you can fit a 7 speed in it then knock yourself out.
My GC8 is for sale BTW if anyone is interested. Add up what building one is going to cost you then ring me.... BTW even though my PPG with a cusco diff was approx $8k I would much rather have put in either a dog box or a 6 speed but this was definitely not allowed. When I built mine (2008) had to be 5 speed synchro. Brendon

Quote:
1/hideously expensive. 2/ must use the hideously expensive rear diff, pneumatic shift etc as well. 3/ If you enter as group A, you fall into M4 category and must also use the 34mm iar restrictor which more than negates any benefits. Quote:
Any event run in WA by the only people willing to run events here will be under CAMS. The AASA are as yet untested in their ability to protect event staff from personal legal attacks. CAMS has a long history of running events with a suitable level of insurance to prevent volunteer officials losing thier shirt if someone gets hurt or killed. The CAMS tarmac rally rules are divided into Classic and Modern. Classics are pre 1982. Modern is post 1982 There are 4 levels of modification based on how fast the original road car does 0-100 km/h. The faster the original car the lower modification category permitted. M1 is for very fast cars, the exotics and R35 GT-R etc. Anything with a 0-100 from 3.5 to 4.8 seconds. Any faster and they are not permitted at all. Safety gear, ECU, exhaust to stock specs etc. M2 is where the majority of turbo AWD cars are. WRX, WRX STi, Evolution Lancer etc. Still very tightly regulated. Must have a catalytic converter, must be heavy, ie; original car -10% + safety gear weight?? etc. Some formula that's quite heavy. Stock gearbox casing and ratios and engagement. Stock turbo, stock engine etc. M3 allows for more freedoms but the car must be slower than 0-100 in 6.8 seconds to start with. So you can't enter a WRX or EVO in M3. M4 is as per homoloation WRC or PRC rally car spec, but must also use the appropriate turbo inlet restrictor. That's why you will see some WRX etc with dog box or 6 speed but they're no fun with the restrictor. |

Going on with this. Are cars that fail to meet these categories able to enter but not be eligible for points, but can still compete??

Tino, the basic way it goes is pre event scrutiny primarily covers the safety complance of the car. Post event scrutiny (ie you are on the podium) covers post event eligibility.
In the east coast targa events they run a demonstartion class where basically anything can enter but are ineligible for overall honours. CAMS is offering some minor changes to get closer to bridging the gap to AASA. eg 3" exhausts. I believe rims size rulings might be being relaxed too, so 17's on a GC8.

Ah i see blaise.. Well i know that i would never really be competitive enough to get on the podium so the post scrut wouldnt really bother me.. haha
So all i really need is the rollcage (that needs to be CAMS approved) to enter most events.. Otherwise if i went with a half-cage would i still be able to enter similar events but maybe be restricted on speed??

Yes - Challenge Modern in TW means you can run a more basic cage but you limited to 120kmh if I recall correctly.
Plus post event scrut could still matter - any competitor can place a protest, and with your car you would be exluded from the event in about 2 seconds.
