Might as well try to get it on a hoist asap and have a look.
Had a look under the front seat before and there is a bracket holding some of the cables/harnesses off the floor, trying to get access to it maybe involve removing the bolts holding the seat in. Edit: sounds like the issue Craig was having...

OK i just came back from doing a few revs and driving around the streets. Im 99% sure its really the exhaust thats doing the rattling. I think its the hanger thats touching onto something. It rattles like a little bit once in a while on idle now, but it still resonates/vibrates around 2000 rpm. Hrm gotta go back to the workshop next week. Unfortunately its public holiday.
Tried reving stationary; no rattle/resonance Last edited by Bluebox; 02-03-2012 at 06:36 PM. |

My exhaust resonates pronouncly when decellerating at 2500rpm. The rattle i beleive would just be the exhaust hitting the heat shield, corrrect me if im wrong but i assume it is because there wasn't much clearance.
Is it resonating more at night when it is cooler? I notice during the warmer weather that it doesnt do it soo much. It is also more pronounced with the aircon on. Anyway, i learnt to live with it. I just have a catback thats 3inch if thats helps. |

Just want to clarify that its more of a resonance than a 'rattle'.Similar to what betty has described;apologize for any misunderstanding

FIXED:
Well, I went back to the workshop today arvo and explained my problem. After worrying for a few nights the mechanic said it was an easy fix. Apparently there was a small clearance between the exhaust and the heatshield which caused the vibration. It was touching it when I decelerated. He just made more of a clearance to fix it. This might sound newbie, but I assume the heatshield is to prevent 'heat' . Since it was sort of touching the exhaust, could it melt? And was there any damage done during the weekend? |

No.
The heatshields are pieces of steel to lower the heat from the exhaust passing through to other areas.

Was informed that its quite common due to the larger diameter of the exhaust. May this be a reference for future drivers

Was this the heat shield above the cat?
