Some logic right there - Area under the curve.

After pushing a TD04 as far as a daily driver would go...
Don't bother. EJ255 will happily take a VF series turbo (get one off the same year STi with STi TMIC too) and it will provide all the power you need. MY05 WRX (EJ205) with TD04 + STi TMIC + 816cc injectors + 2+bar of boost MY05 WRX (EJ205) with VF34 + STi TMIC + 816cc injectors + 1.8 of boost Less boost +40hp +40Nm. Best bang for buck mods you can do. (EJ255 will just need an 06+ STi turbo)

Thanks for these dyno comparisons! its what i wanted to see
Thats a great looking torque and power curve on the vf34, i gotta say though the td04 looks great aswell for daily driver early power is what im after its just too bad it only lasts 1500rpm then dies off so much, but maybe my results will be a bit different considering i have a 2.5l. I think i might add: sti tmic, tomei Headers, bigger injectors and see what the TD04 can do for me, if its not enough then ill go a new turbo and at least ill already have the supporting mods. |

By installing a TD04 to replace later is just doubling your installation / tuning costs.

Does anyone have a td05 18g dyno graph they could post up? possibly similar mods?

Would have been a Walbro drop in.

I love the little turbo, was great for getting off the line, but that is about it. Out of puff in no time and for the cost to get it singing, may as well throw a VF series turbo on and have much more power.

Yes on a 2.5L a TD04 sucks even more. I love the little turbo, was great for getting off the line, but that is about it. Out of puff in no time and for the cost to get it singing, may as well throw a VF series turbo I noticed on the vf34 graph the torque really only lasted 2000rpm The td04 lasted 1500 and but the td04 has way more torque to take the car to its peak horses faster so over a quater mile would the vf34 really be faster? Remember I'm a newbie still learning how torque and horse power work together |

Torque helps get the car off the line, power will push you to a high es speed at the quarter mile.

TD04 - 13.001 quarter mile
VF34 - 12.6 quarter mile. Yes it is faster. My graphs will be a bit different to the average punter as I am not scared of running big boost. Maxing out a turbo you will end up with a torque curve that looks like an upside down triangle. So it won't be flat for long. Long story short, you can run a bigger turbo than a TD04, lots of people have. It will provide a lot more gain than maxing out a TD04 setup.
