Anyone had any experiences with Australian Racing Technologies over in Sydney.

Looks a whole lot like the ones TMR put in the club spec evo's they were selling!
Nice looking bit of kit for a bolt in!

Just check the Cams rules because I think as of this year you cant now log book a car with a bolt in cage. I'm not 100% sure by any stretch but check before you commit to the cage.

Verifying that it is a national spec with CAMS.

Update,
Reply from CAMS Unfortunately that cage would not comply with current requirements as it exceeds the maximum number (4) of removable joints at roof level. So based on that, gone back to ART. Can't see how that a cage with the requirements for the roof bars (Rally spec, which Targas are) can be made with only 4 removable joints. at roof level, but I'll see what they come up with. Personnally, at this stage I don't want this car to become a race only car. Also enjoy using it on the road, which happens more than that the weekends its used on the track. So, in terms of safety only it may mean that we go for the rear 1/2 cage type option to provide ROPS with race seats and harnesses, and remain in the challenge category, with this car.

I guess the rear half could be fully welded together (it will still fit in the car in one piece but it's awkward and requires the whole interior be stripped) then there would only be 4 removable joints at roof level.
Often those bolt together cages are designed to fit with no modification to the trim. ie; the dash and hoodlining remain. Therefore the fit of thye cage is compromised. I took some pics of really poor cages recently at High Country, one of them the driver could look over the top of the front leg of the cage it was that low! Another had the front legs and diagonal brace that far back that the driver had to step over the top of his seat to get his legs in. Either way, a removable cage will be a compromise in safety, strength and design, but I can understand the desire to keep a road car as well. |

Reply from ART.
They have advised that it will comply on a national basis, but not international. Will reconfirm this tomorrow with CAMS. looks like a good result for us. BTW these are AGI cages.

Just out of curiosity Jeckle, have you spoken to someone like Ivan Tan? I just know the times I've asked him about cages he has commented on the good/bad.

No, but will have a chat to Franz on Thursday night, possibly Ivan during scruitineering. Have heard some good things about AGI from the Excel Cup cars. This car will never be an out and out race car. It will always be a compromise and possibly better than me, or have more than I can get out of it. The bolt in is a compromise, not as strong as a welded cage, but better than no cage, but still legally allow us to enter at the highest WA level for tarmac rally, and even do some of the bigger Australian ones. Wether the car is pushed to my 110% in such an event, would be many years away, but there is always the chance of a roll over at low speeds (ie TW 2012). The car does many more road Kms than competitive kms, and I can only afford 1 such toy. Tim
