its because you can't buy a licence plate that is specific to the model of car you own. Ie: if you owned a Holden Commodre SS 5lt, you can no long go and order the plates [5L SS] for example. I think the idea is to stop people buying plates for like the new F430 Scuderia [F430 SCUD] for example, and selling them to some SCUD owner for $10k+

That doesnt even make sense. Wouldnt it be the other way round. You should be able to buy the plate if you own the car, but not if you dont. Or did i just read that way wrong?

no no... he may have bought them himself, but he also may have bought them off someone else... I think what kyms saying is that they stopped allowing plates relating to car types so that people won't rip other people off... but i dont think thats the case. No idea why they stopped allowing it.

I'm not sure either (for example) if you went in and ordered the plates [S201] and registered them to a corolla... and then after they are purchased transfer them to the S201, whether that is aloud or not. Or if they've banned car related plates all together.

This rule came in end of Feb 08, Dad was refused plates in March thats how we found out about it, there is a thread about it...

The problem with the S201 plate is 'S' is the shire of Sandstone, thus the S XXX series of plates is taken by them.

It would be too hard for someone to distinguish S201 and S - 201.

(I think that not being able to get WRX in a plate name is stupid, all you need to do is be quick if a new 'name' comes out as they won't have lists for every car name)
