That Sparco driving suit is almost 20 years old!....and it still fits! Quality Italian made. Made to outlast several rally cars. Still gets the moistys moist Alex...
We had a bit of a shit rally, but with an ok ending. Had a massive 'Giggi Galli' style lose into the hairpin on cold tyres on SS1, just managed to get it backed into the corner on the 'wand' and made a hero of myself while totally shitting at the same time. Then 'Rubbed' a concrete barrier showing off on stage 2, Busselton on Friday night. Knocked the rear bumper and tail light off it but nailed a decent time. Got right into in on the first gravel stage on Saturday, tyres are working well, new nav working well then lose power 10k into the first stage just at the spectator point. I thought it had done the turbo. (was brand new) but turned out to be the engine losing compression and blowing oil out the exhaust. We suspect we got a tank of shit fuel as 3 other cars had the same problem. I couldn't get the car to the end of the stage, shut it down when I saw a slight fire coming throught the bonnet vent 3 km from the end. Got the fire out and back to service where we did some emergency MacGuyvering to get it running again for the Buselton stages. Had to drop boost to gate pressure only. Ran ok all day Sunday with low boost and got back to 3rd WA for the day and won our class for the weekend. I've got a load of in car action to get up on youtube in the next few days. It was quite shocking to pass Nic's car in the trees, just saw it as we went past way off the road. Hope he can get it fixed for the next round. |

Quote:
1.) We had no rally radios and were not informed Nic & Ash had gone off the road. Didn't know they had crashed until the stage was cancelled due to the bush fire. 2.) Had we known, we wouldn't have said anything anyway. Have to be careful speculating on accidents at events. There is a process to follow and if the incident is serious, family/friends/service crew, need to find out through the proper channels, not from commentators at a spectator point. Thankfully the guys are not seriously injured and I believe the car can be repaired even though it looks a mess. Was a trying rally for many teams this year, not many made it through unscathed without some sort of drama. I'll get an event wrap up in this thread and on FB in the next couple of days. Great photos BTW. Karl

We had a great rally, after finding the intercooler was leaking on Friday morning, we took it to a radiator place who pressurised it to find it didn't hold pressure and was like an aquarium bubbler under water, oh well, cleaned some oil out and siliconed it up! Uneventful around the Busso stages, before heading out to Nannup. In the first stage of Saturday, we had some huge tank slappers before I discovered throttle modulation coming out of a corner, I've never had to back off the throttle coming out of a corner before! loving the power.
Put a few good stage times in, passed a few State competitors on the side of the road, car holding up well, to get 3rd WARC at the end of heat one. Heat 2 saw another uneventful run around the Busso stages, before heading out to Nannup again, had a close call with a roo on stage, and an overshoot that cost a pile of time, but we were linking corners together a lot better with some pretty big 3rd and 4th gear slides. We were looking forward to chasing Doug in the final 3 stages as we were only 6 seconds behind, but a bush fire put and end to that. 4th heat 2. Cheers to all the officials out there, It was a great weekend, and we were stoked to get 3rd WARC for the weekend. Curlys turn to drive at Donnelly. Wavey. #36 white GC8 |
