they will replace it under warranty.

There is a common noise at about 90-100kmh on all Subarus which nothing can be done.

If it is a diff problem, let your dealer go for a spin to identify it. If it is diff, they will replace it under warranty.

There is no recall, its just common as more people with wrx/sti's punt their cars around a lot more.

Third time lucky.

It sounds to me like they are putting the same diff back in after they have sprayed or only temp fixed the noice and there hoping for the best.

Insist on having the whole rear diff assembly replaced.

Mark the diff with some liquid paper (just a small blotch) so that you know they have replaced the whole assembly.

What they might have done is install harmonic dampeners to reduce the whine noise a little bit (which is done over in America) to see if people come back before replacing the diff. The harmonic dampeners are just composite materials to shift the resonance of the whine.

Other solution is to replace the diff with your own money with an aftermarket unit. At least you'll do some great doughnuts I guess

mine whines like crazy. starts as low as 40km and the faster you go, the louder. so loud I can barely hear my exhaust at 100km. might try the liquid paper but I think after the third time, they'd be silly not just to replace the whole diff.

Hi Subaru up em mass all at the same time so they are damn persuaded that its a very common problem. Taking no for an answer is just passing you off.
The yanks would have the lawyers involved by now. We Ozzies are just too layed back for our own good sometimes....

Ring up the Subaru Oz HQ complaints department if the local dealer is not coming to the party.

Liquid paper is a very good idea.
