This is exactly what i've done on my XT...heatsheild is coated both sides with the inside coating done with an extra reflective layer, double coated dump pipe and P20 housing......this stuff is brilliant...you can touch the dumppipe within minutes of stopping. Total cost $290

I paid $50 for my 10m heat wrap roll and with four layers on its touchable after you come to a stop. Does the job and Im happy with it.

Though I didnt actually do it for performance rather I did it to protect my speedo cable and other parts under the bonnet which at this age (17 years) can die very quickly if exposed to large amount of heat. I dont worry about heat getting into my TMIC as its a water intercooler and does not suffer from heat soak like air TMICs do. Sitting still in traffic for a few minutes and my intake temps only climb two, maybe three degrees.

Alright I'm pretty much off the idea of a turbo blanket now. Thanks for what everyone has written so far here.

Any good local places to get ceramic coating done?

And - somewhat unrelated - where's a good place to source a P20 housing? Nothing available here or on rexnet ATM.

Must be a different company mate cause Lindon's out past Aubin Grove, his address is Lot 3 No.29 Blackboy Grove.....Blackboy runs off Lyon Rd which runs of Rowley Rd...no where near Kelmscott.
