If you upgrade your motor get ready to upgrade your box.
I say get it fixed as cheaply as possible and buy a STi. 02 STi's are going pretty cheap these days. Then swap your mods over to the new car. Hey presto, same looks better drive-line and POWA! |

I'd would be having a look at this if you don't want to spend bulk $$$ and have a few extras to play with.

Keep the car. Fix it up with a new STI short block or get that JWS $4K long motor and bolt that in. Its too good to sell and start all over again. Anyway, you would need to fix it to sell it anyway. So you might as well fix it properly with STI bits and keep it.

If I had my time again, and had some paitence, I would have just got the motor fixed with what is needed to keep it running at it's current state of tune, chill for 12 months and then consider a better "base" car like the evo or an 05 sti.

cut your losses luke, spend all that is needed to get the motor rebuilt, forget forgies and all that stuff, you don't need it. Correct me if I'm wrong but your still running std driveline, turbo, fuel system etc etc, just lowered springs?
man, just fix it, get it to the good, reliable condition it's in now (obviously with a fresh motor) and relax for 12 months and then flogg it off and get a better car. Do not get attached.

Pete's got a good point, but it also depends what you want to do with your car.
If you want to go all out, keep the car and drop the cash on it. Its a lovely car and it might be worth going this path if thats what you want to do. If not, fix it to standard specs, and keep going as you are...or sell it at a later date for something else. I was in the same situation last year, except the difference was I'd done every bolt on performance mod except for the motor. The motor went pop, so it was a logical choice to spend the extra couple of k and do the 207 + heads and cams. If my car was near standard, the choice would have been different for sure and I would have had to make a choice as to whether go all the way (spend the big bucks as Pete mentioned), or fix and sell. |
