Changing over of intercooler help
When I get back from work, I plan to swap my intercooler over from the standard WRX TMIC to an STi TMIC, would someone be able to give me a few pointers, or things to make sure I do or dont do.
I understand as much as unbolting, undoing the hoses. But is there any lines/hoses that have oil in them, or anything like that. Anything I need to do before I start the car after changing it over? Any help would be very much appreciated, Im still learning how to do stuff on my car. I am assuming that changing to an STi TMIC is not going to be an issue without a tune.? (car is a my02wrx) I plan to get a tune done soon, but that wont be happening until after I have replaced my clutch. |

I did mine on my own, so if i can do it you certainly can If you are running the WRX underscoop splitter, you will quickly realise your STi TMIC is worthless until you change it to the wider STi version though ..

So do any of the hoses carry oil? (yep i really dont know that much) and if so, which one(s)?
I have to admit, Im looking forward to actually doing some work to my car myself for once |

No oil lines, just air. While it's out upgrade the Y-splitter to a silicone one

take it easy and slow. none of the hoses carry oil. un do each clamp as you see it, then replace the cooler doing up each clamp remembering which one you took off last, then working back. from memory, i unbolted it from the bracket, then manifold, then bov and wriggled it around to get to the back of the cooler. thats about the only advice. if you dont feel comfortable nor confident, get someone who knows it back to front to do it. im sure it wouldnt cost much if you wanted piece of mind

I just finished changing over the intercooler, and I took it for a run, seemed to run fine.... slight burning smell, I assume is just crap that was on the intercooler etc. Wasnt very strong and there was no smoke. Went away after a little bit.
Car ran nicely, can hear the turbo spool up a bit louder now, holds boost nicely at 18psi. Now, a last question, since I am the one that fitted it, Im paranoid that one of the hoses is going to blow off. If that happens, I should notice by 1 - car runs shit and 2 - my boost gauge shouldnt show anything like 18psi ? Correct me if I am wrong |
