Default Help...... Heli's = No Brakes!!

Over the weekend I made use of the wet weather and tried some helis in my wrx…..all on private property

After a 360 I stopped accelerating, put my clutch in and put my foot on the brake to stop me rolling into a fence.

And my brake peddle wouldn’t budge! So I hit the fence …..i was only moving slow, but it felt solid!

Only a few scrapes and scratches, so no real harm done. Thanks God!

So thinking about it now, when I went to push the peddle it felt further out than usual, and about 2 or 3 seconds after I hit it slowly went soft again, and I could brake normally.

I'm thinking it would be something to do with the brake booster, and the boost from the engine giving it pressure not vacuum…

Does the brake booster work from the engine pressure, or is there a vacuum pump?
does this often happen? what fails causing it?

cheers in advance, Steve.

haha i tried a few yesterday. Massive carpark at city beach has had sand wash all over it. I yoinked and poped but it just stays doin really big arcs. How do ya get it to pivot? Stay on it? Eg more than one or two revoloutions? I got scared and buggered off.
also you didnt hit a brake line with your rim did ya and pop it? Happened to me a couple of eeks ago on the track with my trac k rims. scary!!!! Braided in now.

^ beat me to it, ABS will play silly buggers, speed sensor experiencing some decent speed and then latching on the brakes you get the wooden pedal.

Its safer to roll out of a heli, donut etc then hitting the skids.

Yeah ABS sucks in that situation. It's all confuzzled and doesn't know what's really happening, but you do.
ABS aint so good on gravel, too

Best thing is like Jme says, chuck the clutch in and let the wheels grip up and the car sort itself out.

"yoink" the handbrake - "pop" the clutch
