R180 breathing
Was doing a once over under the car on the weekend and noticed a bit of diff fluid on the exhaust and around the diff carrier. Given the launches from the Wednesday night drags Im assuming the oil is from the top breather?
I know the R160 of my old wagon did the same from Motorsport events/lots of launches so Im of the assumption the R180 pretty much suffers the same fate?

You don't drive your car hard enough Terry.
Mine have always had a mess around the breather after motorsport events. Subaru changed the design of the breather internal gallery to try to reduce it but it still happens. JME, get one of the Gucci STi finned back covers, they hold a bit more oil as well. |

Thanks Doug, I had a feeling it was the same problem I had with the r160.

Stupid question but what do you do when doing a "once over" after doing motorsport? I should do the same but never thought to look at the diff. What else do you check that i should as well?
Also, so there is not a problem with the oil comin out of the breather? Can ya do a 4wd style mod and put a snorkle on it so the oil seeps back down?

For me its usually, jack up rear/front of car, check all the suspension, bushings, mounts, exhaust, diff, brakes, usually anything I can touch and check for leaks/movement/noise cast my eye over etc. I'm no mechanic but have enough knowledge to know what I'm looking at, as well as just having fun doing so.
Diff snorkle is a good theory, but there isn't a lot of room due to the travel needed for the suspension. As doug mentioned there is the homologated larger/finned plate that might have more of a baffling to it. Or just keep it in check and top up as necessary. Ok cool, Thanks.
I might go check my one ot and see if i can make up a diff breather snorkle with a flexible tube like silicon tubing. That way you will see if you have any in it after a spirited run.
