Experiences/thoughts on a Deep Cycle Sealed AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Battery
Hi all,
I searched here but couldn't find anything to help me out etc. Basically my battery in the 204 is farked and wont hold it's charge for more than 2 days ending up in not being able to turn the car over, so I need to get a new battery but there are so many out there that I'm not sure which one I'm going to get. I know what I need to use with the car, power/size wise but just which brand and material (gel, lead etc etc). Had a bit of a look and came across the Deep Cycle Sealed AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Battery's and wanted to see if anyone has one or has had experiences with them, also what brand they got, where from and how much. They seem to cost at least $300+ for one so just wanted to see if they're worth the extra coin over one of the everyday car battery's you can get for $100+. Cheers, Wayno

that's strange..is the battery new? or is it still the original?
basically with batteries in general, you get what you pay for, so splashing out and buying the more expensive battery now will save you in the long run after several of the cheap ones die....deep cycle batteries are usually for marine and 4x4 use, but can be put in a passenger vehicle if need be, and the car requires one..although they aren't cheap either. Is something electrical running and draining the battery? or is it just old? Hope that helped a bit, although I'm not one to advise the best type of battery specifically what to buy, maybe consult an auto store? Repco? Cheers Brett |

From what I read those AGM battery's are good for High performance cars. I dont think anything is draining the power as I dont have any big stereo components etc and I put the battery from our new mazda in the 204 and drove it for a few days and was fine and dint got flat so I think the battery is just kaput!

okay then, well like I said, the 2nd link I attached is from battery world and those 3 batteries should do the job nicely, if you are just after a new battery, and the old one has simply died, just get something that is in the "medium" category if that makes sense, like not a cheap crap one, but not the most expensive one on the market.
Hope that helps too Cheers Brett |

The battery from the Mazda was fine in the car and held its charge after a few days of sitting there doing nothing so I haven't considered getting the alternator checked and its only done appx 30,000kms not that it matters.

if the alternator was stuffed/cutting out i believe he would get a light(s) on the dash alerting him. When mine went i had the handbrake, door ajar and battery light on regardless of battery charge. All disappeared the second the alternator was swapped
