Well its not ball bearing like the VF34, so off boost there is bugger all response. Also it has a larger exhaust housing than the VF35, better top end but at the expense of loss of low down torque.
And yes for a VF series Turbo, it will have some noticable Turbo lag. Compensated for by a wicked mid-range kick Old School Turbo Style. Of course you can drive around the lack of response at low RPM. For Track work and Drags, the VF39 will be more than adequate. MC and Sprints, it will be a dog of a thing on a 2 litre EJ205 engine. EJ257 engine, different story as that extra .5 litre makes more exhaust gases to spool up the Turbo quicker. MY06/07 WRX owners can cheaply upgrade to 06/07 STi power by picking up a cheap VF30=VF43. How hard would it be to put a P15 housing on a VF39 will it be a direct bolt on?
Although the P17 housing shouldnt be to bad will just wait and see!

how much safe boost can a VF36/37 handle with all the supporting mods ie larger top mount, ecu, exhaust.

they can spike as hard as 2.5 bar, but it all depends on how long you hold the boost for as to whether they get out of their efficency range

How much boost can you safely run through a standard MY00 WRX engine without any mods apart from exhaust! Just out of curiosity

Another thing to look into if you are going to up boost is a Silicon Y-pipe or alloy one!

safely is a pretty loosely used term.
I would say.. as long as its not pinging.. wind in more Ask every tuner and you'll find they have their own idea of "SAFE" some more adventitious then others. |
