hey guys just strolling rexnet and bumped into this:

"If you get the vf35 don't get a silicon intake, you'll have comp surge issues! Numerous ppl on here have had comp issues with a silicon Intake VF35 combo!"

tried searching but is this fact true? and tbh, what is comp surge basically?

i have a silicone intake with the short fat bit currently and was planning on the vf35/34 turbo.

i like the feeling of a hard boost hit, but does the 35 hit you hard? i have only felt a 34 and it feels pretty good however i just don't want to be dissapointed if the 35 feels weak as piss.

thanks guys

I have a 34 with a avo silicon intake and prob half of the people on here mate.iv never had a issue. What pod filter you got? My silicon intake connects to a pod filter in my guard. Don't look to deep into it. I think you will love it. What else are you planning on doing? Have a look at my set up or other peoples on this forum to help you out

thanks for the replies guys...

i didn't think that it was going to be a problem, just that the dude from rexnet said heaps of people here have issues with the 35 + silicone intake, but i guess thats just the internet... never heard it once on perth wrx

hey rexxar, you would be a great person to ask as you have experienced both the 34 + 35... how did the turbo's differ? did the 35 still give you a hard kick when it hits? afaik 35 is low and mid and 34 is more mid to high range spooling. i want the faster spooling turbo but does the 34 really lag that much more than a 35?

mods are just the usual basic mods: tbe, gd wrx ic, apexi pod filter, silicone intake, ebc 1 bar.

plans are a 35/34, sti tmic, elh and a tune. tried and tested

I have a 34 also with silicone inlet etc, when planting it in 4th at low rpm i get a interesting noise as it comes up onto boost, but has zero impact on performance it seems and goes away once in the higher rpm ranges.

sounds like it might be surging? had it running for over 2 years, no issues though, and believe to be common. verso tune by sean.

stock ej205 block, cams, heads. maybe the heads aren't flowing enough for the motor to ingest the volume of air the turbz is pushing in at that lower rpm range?

Vf35 is a plain bearing turbo with a p15 (small) exhaust housing so it spools pretty quick, but is restrictive at high rpm.

vf34 is a roller bearing turbo & has a larger exhaust housing (p18) ....being a roller it spools quick too & ***should*** make more top end with less exhaust housing restriction.

I rate 37>34>35 and see Rossco's comment

The 35 is more or less the same imo gain 20hp(280hp) going from 35 to 34 with bit more top end

^ rexxar did you feel more lag and also did the 34 feel as though it gave you a stronger hit compared to the 35? i have only been in a car with a 34 and for me that was a really nice experience from a good launch

numbers don't do anything for me, drivability does.

more or less the same as power delivery was smooth so didn't feel the push as much(being the driver seat any ways)
clutch kick in the rain it will spin all 4 and wont get traction till 5k RPM ish
