Default rims "sticking" to discs

Have one of those first world problems.

After the speed event series day on Saturday up at Barbagallos, I found it very difficult changing the front rims over. The rims were firmly stuck to the discs and took plenty of hitting with a screw driver and wiggling the rim, trying to knock the two apart.

Once off, both faces were clean with no obvious cause for this.

Anybody else have this, and is there anything I could used to prevent this from happening. Not overly keen on never seize or the brake anti squeel paste here, but could this be an option if used sparingly?

Also, if this does happen to anyone else, and you wiggle the rim and disc about, remember to pump the pedal a few times to put the brake pistions back to where they should be before you reach your first point when you wish to brake, rather than doing then in a hurry.

Did you end up getting that rim off on Saturday?
Sorry I disappeared and didn't help - I got carried away with drinking at McCracken House!

Did you have hubcentric rings on the rims? How did they look ?

clean up you're hub with sandpaper, probably where it was sticking in the rim (the hubcentric bit)

Are the rims painted or powdercoated?
Could be heating up and glueing the wheels on. As Chris says above, clean the hub and the inside seat of the rim. A small amount of grease on here wouldn't hurt either...

could it be because of the heating and cooling has caused the rims to bind to the disc?

Geoff, took 1/2 an hour for the drivers side, and 15 mins for the passengers, but got there eventually,

Tuna, hope they're no cheap, their the original Sti rims.

Sturbaru, did this last time it happened, again after a track day.

GX-Rex, The rims have been powder coated, before I got them, and had no issues for the first 6 or 7 track days that I have done, bit iffy with grease melting and getting on the disc, but then again copper grease is used on the backs of pads.

Mr D, this is most likely part of it, not that I'm getting much faster, but I have changed the type of brake pad. When the Bendix ultimates were being used, no issues, now using QFM A1RMs same discs, so there could be some extra heat.

I finish the event, wait about 10 minutes for things to cool down a bit, then change (or try to) the rims.

ive never done a rim change straight after an event ( ie within 20mins of the last run) but ive never encountered this problem.

A1RM's shouldnt produce much more heat than any other decent pad.

im finding alot of heatsoak from the discs through to the rim ( 3 hot laps on the short course) so ive been goin for a drive for 5 mins around the pits to dissipate the heat more. mind you im still on solid rotors and A1RM's.

I have had this issue with my second set of rims (cheaper ones, that use a plastic hubcentric adapter thing). Although since im usually changing them over at 11 at night after a no limits event my patience is pretty low and they get a reasonably solid kick with a boot and come off. I've never had it with my bbs rims (standard) running r-comps and they definitly get alot more heat. So its not just heat doing it.

Tim...do you have two piece rotors ( I can't remember)? If so, and if the aluminium hats are anodised, the thing to do is to get rid of the anodising to start with so you have bare aluminium. The other thing to do is to clean the face of your rims. I used to have problems occasionally on the MY06 with the 5mm aluminium spacers occasionally sticking to the hats (I had to tap them with a hammer to release them.....this happened less when I cleaned them up.
Also what torque are you using on your wheel nuts? 65 ft/lb is enough.
