Spongy Brake Pedal After Replacing Brake Lines
Firstly I will say I have bled my brakes many times and never had a problem before today. I know there are many opinions as to what order to do them but I have always done in this order: FR-RL-FL-RR as per my WRX workshop manual.
I replaced the old lines with Goodridge braided lines. Anyway the only change from what has happened before when bleeding them is that there was an obvious big loss of fluid from the system when the old lines were taken off. The level in the resevoir never dropped below the minimum mark. I used almost a full litre of fluid doing the bleed after and I am certian there is no air in the lines. I havent driven the car as it is still on the stands but instead of the pedal feeling firm when you press it down it feels quite soft and has alot more travel in the pedal. Even when I start the car the pedal still feels quite soft with with alot more travel than I have ever had. Is there air in the master cylinder or should that have been pushed out when bleeding the brakes?? Any ideas anybody ??? |

Not overly sure, but does the pedal firm up after a few pumps. Does sound like there is air in there. Obviously there are no leaks at the non calapir end of the new lines.

Quite honestly Tim at this moment my brain hurts and I am not 100% sure but I dont think it does. I am not at home at the moment and out most of the day tomorrow so I cant re check right now.
I have double checked the lines and the connections and there is no leak that I can see. I guess I will check that again tomorrow afternoon when it will have been standing for a while and if there is a slight leak it should show up then?? |

Best time for it to show up is when your adding pressure to the system, and where it leaks out is where the air is getting in.
But the pedal should firm up after a few pumps, if not its a major, obvious leak and brake fluid will go some where as the pedal then slowly starts to sink. NB it should be firm after you successfully bleed the brakes.

The pedal certainly doesnt go to the floor with constant pressure, there is just alot more travel than I have ever had before and all was fine before I done the lines and all that old fluid came out when they were removed.
I will do some more checks tomorrow. |

Brembo brakes?
If so, I assume you know there are two bleeders on each caliper? Have the calipers been off or have the pads been out of the calipers? |

Never got around to posting it yesterday but just want to thank Doug and the guys at S-Technic for their time, help and suggestions about my issue when I went to see them for some help.
