RUIN at standard level
Default Vent gasses

Hi All,

just looking through the engine today and the waste gas line is making me a little concerned (pictures below). what im guessing is that the original exhaust line was venting to atmosphere however from what i understand that is illegal so a hole has been melted in the intake circuit to accommodate. Now the elbow(?) fitting has cracked, so that will need to be replaced which doesnt solve the exhaust problem.

So my question is, can the waste gas be re-routed to the intake and if so does it really need heavy-duty hose w/- ss tubing?? i would have thought that the pressure would only require a simple hi-temp hose to a plastic barbed male end.

It appears you're talking about the air recirculation valve (often called a 'blow off' valve) and not the wastegate.

It's normal for the vented air from that valve to return to the intake on the suction side of the turbo. It's not normal to be as dodgy as yours but as long as the connection is air tight it will work.

assuming the connection is airtight (the answer is most likely on another thread, cant find it), what sort of material should i use to make up the system? can i put silicon hose on there or is a heavy duty hose similar to whats already on there suitable?

Any hose will work. There's minimal pressure and minimal heat.

And it sucks all the noise back into the turbo :-(

The only reason to own a turbo charged car :-p
