As for a mate buying off a truck, well my mates have enough brains not to do that but they did, they know obviously not to tell me. Its the whole "What he doesn't know wont hurt him" type thing. But if I was to walk into a party and there was a bucket running in the laundry, I would walk out. Bottom line, mu friends know not to put me in that position to start with so I have no problems.

Thanks for that. Do you know what the penalty for this is? I have heaps of points but if it is automatic suspension of license I would be stuffed. Cheers Brendon

I suggest you go to court IF you get a summons....your description of the event sounds as though it wasn't particularly a big deal. I had a "careless driving" summons from an off duty officer many years ago, I took it to court, defended myself and the officer was laughed out of court and the charge was dismissed in about 2 nano seconds..... |

Fight it dude, you should be ok, especially if the officer did not return and take photos etc of the site.
End of the day your used to driving a WRX with not alot of torque down low and 4wd, this car (that youve rarely driven) was a torquey rwd which was light in the rear end... unintentional, and you back off....

Not that it makes a lick of difference but it does make me feel a little bit better, I had a mate get out of his car and have a look the next morning on his way to work and he is adamant that there were no black lines anywhere.
Again it will mean absolutely nothing but at least I feel that no doubt what happened was a mistake but not intentional / dangerous etc.

There is no need to take photos of the scene on the cops behalf but if it was a careless charge, it can be dealt with by infringement which is $150 and 3 points. Personally if I was her, I would send you that ticket and be done with it. Less paperwork that way :-)

It doesn't detract from the fact that a police officer is a human being in a uniform, and thus can be and quite frequently are just as fallable as any of us! Don't get me wrong, as you can probably appreciate I have nothing against cops and from some of the stories I regularly hear at work I don't envy their jobs at all! However there are more occasions than most would like to believe where officers abuse this power on a daily basis... and trust me, I have sat through MANY a court case where their asses are raped by judges.. and this includes issues such as traffic related etc that most of us would deem as petty!! So yes, I may appear 'wrong' based on the court case you've experienced... but I assure you I've been present and directly involved in many more over the years that could really illustrate the points I'm making here! I'll also point out that there is a growing number of cases being reported of late where off-duty officers are stepping outside their professional boundaries and abusing their positions of power. Sometimes this is intentional, more often than not this is occuring due to lack of experience etc. So unless it's a serious enough matter, I say learn to switch off and call someone who is on duty!! If not for everyone else's sake, for your own health... the burnout rate for federal police is high enough as it is!!

Dude, $150 and 3 demerits = cop it sweet.
Suspension = fight it, too many variables to prove (or at the least you'll provide a good fight), plus you said you have heaps of points basically proving you are a responsible driver. Fords = don't fuckn drive em!

I was going to say, if you had a wrx you would get your car confiscated, but then again if you had a wrx she never would have caught you!
