It'll never happen. At least not some big hike to $5 or $10/litre without a proportionate increase in the cost of everything else, otherwise it would just kill the economy big time. No govt would ever allow it to happen or = political suicide.

Remember, most of the $$$ at the bowser is fed/state taxes, a result of the 80's catch-phrase: World Parity Pricing.
Steal used cooking oil and make it into bio-diesel to put into the upcoming Diesel Subaru.
If anyone wants biodiesel, drop me a PM.
It will never happen that soon, and before it does, alternatives will be in place. Happy motoring :)
By the time it becomes an issue "Big Oil" and world governments will have systems in place to make money out of a Hydrogen based industry ( or whatever some bright spark comes up with in the mean time ) and will be quite happy to give up the oil profits and claim the moral high ground of being environmental leaders.

Never fear you will always have a way to go fast enough to have to pay speeding fines :D :D :D

Is this a good time to raise conspiracy theories on alternate energy sources and how oil companies/governments have keep them secret??

Lol!

Anyone who believe this would also believe all the 'hoon' stories on ACA/TT too.

What I find interesting is how 10 years ago, fuel was running out soon. We don't get told of all the new reserves that are found that will supply oil for many years to come.

The problem is not our government, but the way oil is distributed to the world. Low supply with high demand = more money for the oil suppliers.

ImPreSiV 20-11-2007 08:36 AM

Kato, some would call that good business management. :D

Creating supply and demand and raising profit.
just watching the news and they had a segment on the future fuel crisis.

they said fuel prices are likely to hit $5-10 in the next 5 years!! can you imagine paying $300 - 600 bucks to fill up?

also had a bloke trying to start fuel saving measures now.. wanted to give everyone a card with a set amount of fuel they could use a week depending on their needs, i.e. people near public transport got less, people with kids got more.

started to make me think im no longer gonna be able to afford to run my car before i'v even finished paying it off.
You've been watching too much Today Tonight :D

Back in the 70's oil was at an inflation adjusted price of $103 a barrel vs about $96 now. So we have been here before and the world didn't end....
