Sorry to Hijack your conversation - but now that Ive finished uni im going back to the gym. My goal is to lose 10kg in the next 4 or 5 weeks. Is cardio enough or should i mix weights into it? (Sorry im a noob at these things).
I was trying out Intervals before - sounded like the way to go. |

warm up first by running/x-trainer etc then throw a weights session into it you burn more fat (& calories) with muscle. plus you'll be able to lift 6 speeds and shiz

Tried something new today - It still somewhat proves to me that treadmills are very brutal when it comes down to it's calculations of how long a kilometre actualy is, in terms of calibration.
Set the dreadmill to count down from 25minutes to 0, and see how far I can run in that time. Started off at 11.2km/h, at 4km mark, i'm at 11.8 (increasing speed as distance gets further) and last 500 metres im running at 13.5km/h and I just made 4.8km! I've been trying to get 5.0 under 25min on this sucker for quite some time, just feels like compared to the road that these things are sooo brutal with calibrated distances? Feel like i want to try that on another brand of machine as i feel like I am pretty fit and giving it my all, absolutely slayed by the end of it - 1.5kilo loss in weight (weight before and after the run) Anyone else find this? Note that it takes the treaddy about 25 seconds to ramp up to 11.2km/h, so that 25 seconds could be the difference between 4.8 and 4.9 etc.

I've wondered the same about treadmills myself. To be honest though, it doesn't worry me too much.
In saying that though, 25 seconds to ramp up to that speed seems like a fair while...what brand is the treadmill? To anyone who is still doing the whole "umm'ing and ahh'ing" about whether to get off their lazy ass and do something....do it! From the beginning of 2009 to september 2010 I only lost 10kg...then I decided to get serious about losing weight and getting fit. Since september to now I've lost 26kg, and have gone from walking/jogging 500m to jogging 9.5km (daily). Cannot express how much better I feel for it. Now it is time for me to start toning up as well (at this point not looking to build alot of muscle...maybe a bit later) so anyone have some tips? I have started using a rowing machine regularly but interested in other avenues too. |

It's a Johnson, pretty oldschool one though, but still a good one - part of the gym at work. In terms of your fitness, given the beep test a crack yet?
