It's called the new "Quicky Bricky" apprenticeship scheme guys. You think the brickies are rough you should see what plasterers get up to!!

From what i understand - you don't need to be registered to be a bricky... same with carpenters.
Pisses my housemate off because he is in the middle of a 4 yr apprentiship (sp) to become a painter. he can't get work unless he is a registered painter. yet someone can build a house with no qualifications and put peoples lives at risk... no problem

A diagram I have is 5mm stuctural tolerance or 3 mm Non structural framework tolerance. What does "Non structural framework tolerance" mean. The affected walls in my case are face brick. |

Grano workers also dont need to have any qualifications. The most important part of a building project (foundation) and anyone can do it. |

I would like to pass on a big thank you to Wrexter for providing me with some info regarding AS3700-2001.
Thanks Heaps!! I have had a few anxious days wondering what the tolerances would be and whether I would have a case. Considering this particular bricklayer is being paid to teach apprentices,it nots going to look so good for him. col5555 |

Generally with cottage construction in WA if it is double brick, your inner leaf of brickwork had the wall plate on it and supports the roof and is therefore the structural element. The outer leaf is your non structural element.
From the regs it seems you should be able to put a straight edge on the brickwork from the bottom to the top of the external leaf and not see it run out by more than 10mm. If you are not happy start by talking to the builder rather than the tradie. (Only applies if you are usign a builder) Unfortunately the shit flow down hill in the building industry and the poor quality is a bit of a legacy of the boom times and the cowboys in it. Brickies are lie :"the platersa will fix it". Plastereres are like "the painters will fix it" and on it goes.
