Big news in the jailbreak sector of the iphone. A new jailbreak has been release called "spirit" that allows you to unlock any version of the iphone (2g, 3g, 3gs) on any firmware (3.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3) as well as the ipad (3.2)

Have tested this on my Iphone 3GS 3.1.3, works fantastic. Only took 4min to do. Tested it on a v3.2 iPad as well

I don't know that much about jail breaking so here are a few basic questions.
Once it's done can you still use your iTunes music and apps?
If a new app comes on the AppStore can u get it or are you then restricted to non approved apps?
What are the major advantages for the iPad?
My main reason for JB would be running my iPhone as a wireless access point to give my iPad 3G access.

iTunes and apps work as they would normally do. You can download apps and they will be added to iTunes, iTunes thinking that you purchased the app. Syncing works as it normally would as well.

http://apptrackr.org is where i get all my apps from. They get updated daily.

iPad jailbreak is the exact same as the iPhone (its the same OS as such).

Not sure about the wireless access point yet for the iPhone to iPad. Will need to have a look at that, as that is a major reason why i didnt buy the iPad.

I have wifi at work and home and don't really need to use the iPad anywhere else, but if I do would be handy to use iPhone as a MiFi type device.

As for the ipad it is bloody awesome. So much more usable than I even thought it would be.....

Tethering a iPhone to an iPad would have been a killer move, but alas the telco's want their cut too. I think the MiFi app that turns your iPhone into a wireless access point is great for the 1-2 times a year you would need to access the 3G mobile interwebnetz.

Hopefully there is a good price on a 3G iPad plan in Australia <insert lol's here>.

As said before, jailbreaking does nothing to the normal iPhone operations. It just allows you to install other programs that may not be to Apple's liking.

Jailbreaking just changes the programs on your phone.

Think of it as installing Microsoft Office on a computer. When you power off, the files don't just dissapear....
