I believe they still use Ka. They are not allowed to issue tickets
based on POP mode. This is true for the US also. POP mode
does not allow for a lock of your vehicle which the courts require.
It can give a speed reading, but is not always accurate. The idea
is that POP is VERY quick (so quick detectors have trouble seeing it),
gives the officer an idea of your approx speed. If they think you are
going too fast they MUST use a normal signal to get a lock before
issuing the ticket.

In short, I have NEVER known a photo radar to use POP. By its very nature
a multanova radar signal is always on (that how it knows you're there)
and as such is detectable.

Anwer is simple. Carry some black spray paint and spray the lens if you
see one, then RUN (not back to your car). I bet the guys in the
van could never catch me. Plus they are not allowed to leave their
vehicle unattented.

When i used to do 12k runs every second night with my dad, I would save up all my spit and the white shit that accumulates at the edge of your mouth... and then lob it onto the radar by the rose garden on stirling highway.... then laugh as the radar operator shouted at me hehe. used to spray all over the thing.

I believe that the application to get a radar operators licence includes an application to get abused by the general public.

I reserve the right to fight against laws I think are unjust (ie. are designed to achieve a purpose other than the advertised one - raising money not increasing saftey).

Now that this thread has degenerated again.....

Driving west through the Polly Pipe aka Northbridge tunnel this arvo at 2pm, my Detector picked up strong Ka band signals about midway through..

I think they must trialing some sort of speed sensing equiptment in the roof again?
