Default Car battery chargers

Guys my cteck trickle charger decided to shit itself sometime in the last few days so when i wanted to go for a drive yesterday the battery was completely dead.

Now ive taken the cteck for a warranty claim, and picked up a supposively better model in the mean time, but that one cant really charge that well also, i.e 15 hrs charging and the car still cant crank over.

The battery is a small arsed braille battery B14115 which has around 904 pulse cranking amps, 486 cranking amps and 360 cold cranking amps (i know that this dosent help when im at the limit of what cranking amps i should be using for a suby motor)

What chargers do people recommend?

1) i want one that i can just throw onto the battery with those easy attachements as the battery is tucked up in the inner gaurd i.e like cteck.

2) One that can also charge the battery if it goes dead.

My next door neighbour has an awsome one which is around 5-600 but it just charges all the time so im not sure if that would be good for the battery... I know that this charger actually works as it rescued my braille when no other one could..

Just connect wires and anderson plug to battery and then cut off the clips on the charger and put anderson plug onto wires. Dont have to use anderson plugs, can just use cheap wiring connectors, all up to you.

Thats all we ever use on all of our cars and use just cheap trickle charges that are just a wall socket and wires.

Have got a cteck charger, seems to charge the forklift battery fine so far but only had for 6 months.

That's weird that you think its not doing the job, I have the model below that, the XS3600 and I leave it connected to the rex when its not being used and I find it works great. Seems to charge quick as well. Maybe check the connectors are firmly secured or that you haven't got them on reverse polarity, (neg on pos, pos on neg), although I doubt you'd make that mistake.

So there's definitely not something staying on drawing a large amount extra power when the car is off?

hahah yeh it works fine (older charger) if the battery doesnt go flat but when it goes flat it just cant do it. I normally turn it on every few days overnight, but i didnt check on it the last few days and the actual unit died and dead battery..

The braille battery only puts out a small amount of cranking amps to begin with so struggles to start the car if its not fully charged...

Get a wall timer and set it to charge for a pre determined time every day, or every two days etc.

Get a solar panel to charge the battery. I have a 200cca battery and it starts my car no problems.

The main thing is to keep the battery charged, and to equalise the battery all the time. AGM batterys/calcium/gel batterys cant be charged by a cars alternator. The voltage is too low. If you get a solar panel you can bring the voltage up to around 15-16v.

Even though it is not recommended if the battery is monitored for heat, it will be fine and will also help prolong the life of the battery.

hmm solar panel where exactly??? The car is parked in the garage all the time..

Yeh thats normally what i do.. put the trickle charge on every couple of days, but because my trickle charge died my battery went completely flat.. grr

Its been charging for 24hrs and still not enough juice to start the car. Just tried to start it.. Boooo will leave it for another 24hrs and hopefully itll be charged tom..

I don't get it... if you have a ctek, why don't you just leave it on ALL the time when you're storing the car in between use?

That's what I do with mine and was the main reason I went with a ctek, because they are designed to stop charging when the battery reaches the right voltage, to prevent overcharging.

It then monitors voltage and when it drops to low, the charger kicks back in and starts trickle charging again.

So there's no need for you to be turning it on and off, the only time you need to put it on standby is when you're disconnecting the charger.
