1. Get legal advice, not advice from a car forum.
2. Don't post on a public forum where she could read it.

She would be a rare find not to want as much as she can get from the settlement. Get proper legal advice.
Good luck with it all though. It's never easy on anyone.

1. Prepare a list of Assets and Liabilities
2. Prepare an Application for Consent Orders....Form 11, Family Court - very worthwhile to get it checked by a lawyer (that won't cost much) 3. Present to your wife and try and come to an agreement and if so lodge with Family Court 4. If no agreement, go to mediation (eg Relationships Australia) 5. If all of above fails, engage a lawyer...eg Marks& Sands...ask for Nick Rodda (WRX Club member)...try and avoid having to go to court as that's where the big cost comes in. 6. Remain professional and business like - do not engage in any vindictive behaviour...keep the high moral ground. 7. Be prepared to compromise and move on. 8. Do not air your grievances on any public forum or social media

Thanks to nauli, scary, and Andrews posts in a previous thread I created about this topic I was able to provide guidance to my father in a similar situation.
My mother used a legal service that wasn't anywhere near as expensive as a commercial law firm I'll put up the details if I can find them after work 'I think she paid around circa $1,300 for it. Well worth getting the proper paper work put in place to ensure that everything is dealt with properly now.

This. As shit as this sounds, you are better off losing 20k in the split than 150k in court over 3 years....

Mate if you can keep the lawyers out of it then do so. Once they get involved you will spend big bucks feeding them in all the backwards and forwards shit they like to do and in the the long run your ex will come out way on top unless she is a very considerate person and decides to be nice ???? That is normally very unlikely.
I feel for you big time and I wish you all the best going through this and hope you come out the other side in a good way. |

You're not factoring in the adult children.

True, my bad.
Hopefully then things wont be so bad if she doesnt have that leverage over you. At least I managed to keep the car, at a cost, when I went through my divorce. |
