The penalty was warranted, the defender had the choice of holding him back (as he did) and risk a penalty or go easy and risk an open attack at the goal keeper, its a split decision but it was clear as day imho. Aussies will be back next cup no question.
you cant foul someone when there already on the floor!

The italian stacked it over Neil after he tried to pass the ball

If anything, breciano should of chopped him outide the penalty box and taken a banana for the team

From my point of view, Neil held him down, moreover the opponent taking a dive...

The wog milked the penalty like any true blooded wog would inside the box - the ref fell for it - simple as that!

Hollow victory, but shit happens....

Neil should have stayed on his feet.

Neil played the ball and never came into contact with the man or the ball! In the rules of the game thats a fair challenge!
The Ref's were out for aussie blood from the start of the World Cup, after the 3rd game we had more penalty's against than any other team in the world cup!! All because we don't take dives like the rest of the cheating gunts! 6 SECONDS!!!!!!!

Was in Federation square for the Croatia v Aus game! It was unbeleivable, never seen anything like it in aus before!!

Well done to Australia for progressing as far as they did.

Italy missed many opportunities throughout the game to convert, in the end it just so happened to come by way of a penalty shot. You have to play for the foul, that's football.

I've been following the Italian team for over 12yrs and last night, although my heart was with Australia, my wallet was always with Italy.

As stated before, Australia will be back.

Bunch of whiners

EVERY single game - there will be issues regarding referee decisions, thats soccer!

The instant red card should NOT have been given, the penalty was a 50-50 decision, some ref's would give it, some wouldnt. Both teams FAILED to finish when it came to goal scoring throughout the whole match. There was ample opportunities from both sides to score.

2 months ago, if you asked most people what they thought about soccer, they wouldnt give it the time of day. This world cup put soccer back in the interest of Australians. After all - theres a reason why soccer players get 15mil/year opposed to the afl's 300k/year :P

Being of italian descent but living in australia, was goin for australia in the match, yet expected italy to win.

Ahh well.. now the 'roos are out - FORZA ITALIA!
