Ta guys, am going to check Mark's tripod when I get a moment. Hopefully the plate from that will fit.
On another note my uv filter arrived from the US on Tuesday just in time for our work do at the zoo today. Here's a couple of shots.

Are you shooting in Raw or Jpg ?
And do you do any post processing ? |

I shoot in RAW and other than correcting the light balance, cropping (only crop where needed) and resizing I don't do much processing, I don't have photoshop and don't really know how to use it
The photo of the 2 zebra's and the penguins are as they were taken except for sizing of course. Pity about the visible smudge marks on the glass in the tiger enclosure, felt like taking a cloth to the class and getting all the handprints from the kiddies off.

Ok becuase generally Raw does not sharpen like jpg does, so when shooting in raw, you need to sharpen the image once its on the pc.
in photoshop its a very quick command but it makes a lot of difference. and will make the photos pop more and be a lot sharper. |

Mountain Bikers
Bit of a muckaround/test shoot for Mountain Bikers, shot at a local jump park to try out a few things before lugging the gear up into the hills.
Using 3 strobes for most shots, two on stands and one held by a mate. Was shooting around 11am so even though it was cloudy there was still quite a lot of ambient light - trying to over power that totally with 3 little strobes was difficult in the open, but achievable under the shade. Triggered using Cactus V4's, was able to sync at 320th without any loss of frame, so was very happy with that! All strobes are shot bare for hard light. Will be adding a few more shots to the Flickr Gallery over the next few days. Tried a few Black and White conversions to the images, but I think I prefer the colour versions more. Will see how they compare in print though.

I'm looking in to getting a couple of Vivitar manually adjustable flashes and syncs/umbrellas/softboxes etc on a friends recommendation.
If i've already got an sb800 speedlight could i use it as a strobe do you think, or would it be better to get 3 flashes instead? ideally i'd want some studio strength strobes but they're too expensive/hard to set up in the field... |
