Kulula Airlines - Flying 101

Meet Kulula Airlines ...and their new paint job At last a funny livery that we can learn something from!

kulula.com is a South African low-cost airline. It operates domestic services to all major cities and regional services to Namibia, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.


Its main base is OR Tambo International Airport Johannesburg. Its headquarters are near OR Tambo in the Bonaero Park area of Kempton Park, Gauteng.


The word "kulula" is Zulu for "easily".


The kulula.com fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of December 2009):


* 1 Boeing 737-200
* 3 Boeing 737-400
* 1 Boeing 737-800 (7 more on order. with delivery in 2010).

Did a bit more reading on this apparently this is the first in a series of new planes which will all be painted in similar funny livery. The next plane i think is going to be painted too look like a delivery parcel with "this side up" written on it etc.

Apparently this livery is intended to de-mystify flying!

His response...

You should fly one of them one day. It is hilarious. They don’t do the normal safety talks either. They say things like – “If you smoke in flight you will be requested to take it outside – immediately” and “In the unlikely event of a crash – which is more unlikely than the president approving tax cuts – you should……” And so on.

The pilot will also announce that our arrival time in Cape Town is 14:35. The only problem is that the flight is going to Durban……

They are quite good to fly with.
