You would be supprised how much easier it makes things. Im only using 3

Centre monitor all internet webpages programs etc
Left monitor has Vista Side bar and TV tuner, Windows Media player.
Right monitor Has MSN, Email program,

makes multitasking so much easier each monitor has its own task bar as well. which hold the running programs on that screen.
Id rather 3 individual like this than 1 big one.

Bumping the thread for some opinions on a system I'm looking at putting together.

It's main use will be for watching movies, listening to music and of course games. I need it to connect to my Yamaha RX-3800 amp so I have chosen HDMI as the interconnect between the two. Parts I would like so far......

Case - Lian Li PC-C32 rack mountable case in black to match the amp for size, shape and color
Mobo - ASUS P5E-VM HDMI uses Intel Socket 775 http://au.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=...12&modelmenu=2
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz
Mem - Either 2 or 4GB DDR2-800MHz. Any brand recommendations or is it all pretty much the same? Worthwhile going 4 over 2? It is cheap(ish)
DVD - Pioneer DVR-212
Storage - 2 x 750GB WD HDD
Digital TV tuner card
At least 650W PSU ???? Is there a way to know how big it needs to be? Is this too big?
GPU - Inno3D GF 8800GT Overclock. This is where I fall down. I picked the mobo based on HDMI capability, but this graphics card has dual dvi out and I don't know if I need to run the signal out of the card if it's connected or if it can still use the HDMI port from the motherboard? Also the GPU uses DDR3 RAM only and the mobo will only take DDR2 sticks. Is there a compatability issue or does the GPU have it's own seperate RAM? Should I get a graphics card with HDMI? Suggestions?
Also is it worth getting a CPU cooler other than OEM?
Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions anyone can add, cheers Phil

EDIT: Will be run off Vista Home Premium and displayed on a 42" Sony Bravia LCD

the 8800gt has it's own ddr3 ram. u don't need to have ddr3 on mobo also you wouldn't be able to hdmi out your 8800gt graphic thru mobo's hdmi. but dvi= hdmi-audio, there'r few dvi to hdmi leads up for sale.

and don't waste your money on a factory overclock card as you just pay the extra for somebody overclock your card bringing more heat and more noise..

ps, i have vista ultimate edition for sale. $250

Rack mount case seems a waste if it is not in a rack.

Vista Home seems like a waste on a good system. You can't network properly with the Home editions. Personally I'd spend the extra couple of bucks and get Vista Ultimate OEM.

I'd get the 4 gigs of RAM. You can never have enough of the stuff. Just remember when using a 32 bit version of Vista it will only 'see' 3.2gigs of RAM. If you want to use any more than that you need to run 64 bit, but then have some (not many anymore) compatability issues with 64 and 32 bit software.

Video card ram is not the same as mobo ram. Think of it as brake fluid and engine oil. Both liquids, both in the car, not same.

System is very similar to my current box, except I have 8800GTX.

P.S. Check the inputs and resolution of the TV. Some will have DVI inputs. If it is not being used as a TV, you can get very good large 1080p monitors at good prices now.

giddy.. iv just built a cpu after much research on cpu forums the build i ended up with was:

CPU: Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo - Reason i chose this over quad core is unless you editiing video's and mulimedia shit that actually utilize 4 cores.. there is no point - as all games (even crysis) are built around 2 core processers.

Gfx Card: 8800GT - Get a generic branded one. they are all the same - if you want to get a overclocked version - just use a progrm called rivatuner to oc yourself. saves u a heap of money...

MB: Gigabyte-P35-DS3P - best mb of 2007.

Ram: 2GB ram... YOU DONT NEED OR WILL NEVER USE 4GB! not for at least another year anyway.... and even then - if your playing games that actually need 4gb... your gfx card will shit itself first. Save your money and buy better 2GB DDR2 ram..

PSU: Buy a decent power supply unit... Corsair 620 is awsm and cheap.
